Day 1 Arrive in Paro
During the flight, on a clear day, you can see breathtaking views of the Himalaya Mountains, including the sacred Jumolhari and Jichu Drake peaks in Bhutan. Upon arrival in Paro, you will be greeted by Jachung Travel's representative and transferred to your hotel.
In the afternoon you can visit the following places:
-- National Museum (Ta Dzong)
-- Paro Rinpong Dzong (fort)
-- Kyichu Lhakhang (oldest monastery)
-- Drugyal Dzong (victory dzong)
In the evening you can explore Paro town. Overnight in Paro.
Day 2 Paro to Wangduephodrang (4-hour drive)
After breakfast hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which is Bhutan's most famous monastery. It is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. The hike to reach the viewpoint to the monastery makes for a nice half-day excursion.
In the afternoon you will drive to Wangduephodrang. The drive takes you across the Dochula Pass (10,230 ft), which is marked by a large Bhutanese chorten (Buddhist monument) and prayer flags. You will stop on the pass for tea, and if the weather is clear, you will take in beautiful views of the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas. The road to Wangdue winds down from the pass, meandering through magnificent pine and rhododendron forests, giving you a glimpse of some of the most picturesque countryside in Bhutan. Day 3 Wangdue and Punakha sightseeing
After breakfast you will visit Punakha Dzong, which is noteworthy both for being one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan and also for having been built by the first Shabdrung in 1637. You will then visit Khamsum Yulephelma Chorten in Punakha, and later you will stop at Metshina Village and take a 20-30 minute walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lakhang, which is a fertility temple. Later you will visit Rinchen Gang village and Wangdue Dzong and you will explore Wangdue town. Overnight in Wangduephodrang.
Day 4 Day hike to Chorten Nebu Monastery in Punakha
The hike begins in Kabjisa, which is a 30-minute drive from Punakha Dzong. The hike to Chorten Nebu, a 16th-century temple, is about 2 hours uphill. The surroundings are beautiful, and you'll pass through a quaint village nestled in an orange grove. Chorten Nebu was built during the time of Drukpa Kunley, who was also known as the Divine Madman.
Day 5 Wangdue to Thimphu (3-hour drive)
In the morning you will drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. In the afternoon you can explore Thimphu on your own. You can visit local shops and handicraft stores and stroll through the town. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 6 Thimphu sightseeing
After breakfast you will visit the following places:
-- King's Memorial Chorten
-- Changgangkha Monastery
-- Taken reserve to see the national animal
-- Radio tower for a view of Thimphu valley
-- School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school)
-- Folk Heritage Museum and Textile Museum
-- Bhutan post (send post cards to your families)
-- Weaving center in Changzamtok
-- Traditional paper factory
-- Thimphu Dzong and Simtokha Dzong
Overnight in Thimphu
Day 7 Thimphu to Paro (morning day hike to Tango monastery)
After breakfast you will drive 12km north of Thimphu to hike to Tango monastery. It will take about 45 minutes to hike to the monastery. Tango Monastery is a Buddhist college, and it's the residence of the Desi Tenzin Rabgye, a young boy who is the reincarnation of the 16th-century monk who built Tango.
In the afternoon you will drive to Paro. In the evening you can visit a traditional farmhouse and, if you wish, enjoy a typical Bhutanese dinner. Overnight in Paro.
